Friendship or Facade?

One of my favorite things to do is drink coffee with a good friend. The coffee soon gets forgotten as we delve into each others lives catching up on the real lives we live and the real situations with which we may be struggling. In these days of counting "friends" in hundreds or even thousands via social media, I'm convinced having just a handful of real live friends is so much better than the pretense of popularity. The facade presented as friendship so often hides anything real about ourselves focusing only on the glamor and hype of a great internet post. Being "lonely in a crowd" is so easy to achieve. The dross of wading through platitudes and false word-grins actually distracts from real friendship I'm sure. Real friends are there no matter what, especially in a situation that we'd hate to see posted on any form of social media. Social media may actually be a current day oxymoron. So, good friend, soon we should sit and sip coffee and help each other along the road of life. No excuses.
